Agencies pay what they pay because you're interchangeable to them.

Direct clients pay more because you're not interchangeable to them,

they just don't know how to find translators like you yet.

Competing on price on open bidding platforms is a race to the bottom by design: the platform wins either way.

This isn't about being cheaper. It's about being findable by clients who aren't shopping on price at all.

Here's the thing Translation Agencies don't tell you:

Agencies charge their clients $0.25–$0.35 per word.

They pay you $0.05–$0.08.

That gap isn't a slight. It's their business model. And it works perfectly...
as long as you stay in the dark about it.

Direct clients (the businesses, law firms, marketing agencies, and nonprofits who actually need your expertise) are out there right now, paying full price, with zero middlemen involved.

They don't know how to find you.

And until now, you didn't know how to find them.

But it gets worse

You've probably seen the headlines: ”AI is replacing translators.”

Every month there's a new tool. A new warning. A new reason to wait before building your freelance business.

And if that doubt has kept you on the sidelines, that hesitation is costing you real income, every single day.

Here's what those headlines leave out: translators who understand AI and know how to work with it are becoming more valuable, not less. They're landing bigger jobs, faster, at better rates.

The ones falling behind are the ones still waiting to feel ready.

The problem isn't your skills. It's the missing system.

Most translators have read the articles. Joined the forums. Bookmarked the guides. And still don't have direct clients.

Not because they aren't talented, but because they've never had a step-by-step system that takes them from "I speak two languages" to "I have a booked calendar and know exactly how to grow."

That system now exists.

Who am I?

I’ve been a keynote speaker at ATA-sponsored events, ProZ.com's Annual conference, the New Zealand Society of Translators and Interpreters Annual Conference, as well as the Austin Area Translators and Interpreters Association (AATIA).

📗 AI for Professionals and Entrepreneurs

📗 How to be a Successful Freelance Translator

📗 How to set up your own Translation Agency

Professionally speaking, I started off working in banking in Switzerland, and then I received a Master’s degree (M.P.A.) from Cornell University in Finance. After this, however, I set out to build a career as a Freelance Translator and gradually set up my own Translation Agency, Lugano Translations.

Born in the United States 🇺🇸, moved to Argentina 🇦🇷 when I was 2, I then grew up in Switzerland 🇨🇭from the age of 5.

I have Italian and American citizenship, but I have lived all over, from Costa Rica to Korea to Switzerland to China and the US. I now live in Taiwan. In other words, I have been surrounded (and enthralled) by languages my whole life. I served as Treasurer for the Carolina Association of Translators and Interpreters (CATI), and I've been involved with Freelance translation for over a decade, both as a translator as well as an agency.

“The best translators course I've experienced so far. Although, I'm not a novice translator, I already can see that this course would have been an immense support when I had started out. As a professional translator I've learned a lot of those "tiny" details that make the big picture, ones that I've been missing while learning all by myself. Really useful links, useful hints and tips.”

Alex Smirnow

“I have studied translation and worked on it at a firm in the past, but have stopped translating professionally for another job. Since translation is my real passion, I am trying to figure out a way to start translating again. Learning some the tricks of the trade of doing it as a freelancer is just what I need right now. I believe this course is a great tool to help me start translating again at a professional capacity.”
